چکیده

Abstract Background Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is an electric-like recurrent pain of a sudden onset and localized to the area supplied by trigeminal nerve, patients are usually free in between attacks. It’s one most common causes facial commonly induced mechanical irritation, there’s strong evidence suggesting insult at nerve root which caused neurovascular compression. The aim study was evaluate role diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) detection microstructural changes normal appearing with correlation DTI parameters severity. Results Thirty cases were included (16 TN 15 healthy controls) underwent MRI imaging. fractional anisotropy (FA) values nerves recorded then comparison affected unaffected sides controls done, also degree FA reduction correlated severity groups. mean value 0.43 ± 0.083, while that 0.56 0.058. 0.54 0.057. A significant statistical differences found ( P < 0.00001) 0.0003), no statistically difference detected side controls. negative score 0.001). Conclusions Diffusion functional technique can detect nerve.

Diffusion tensor imaging and beyond.

The diffusion of water molecules inside organic tissues is often anisotropic (1). Namely, if there are aligned structures in the tissue, the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of water may vary depending on the orientation along which the diffusion-weighted (DW) measurements are taken. In the late 1980s, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) became possible by combining MR diffusion measurements w...

Imaging evaluation of trigeminal neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a debilitating pain syndrome in the sensory distribution of the trigeminal nerve. Compression of the cisternal segment of the trigeminal nerve by a vessel, usually an artery, is considered the most common cause of trigeminal neuralgia. A number of additional lesions may affect the trigeminal nerve anywhere along its course from the trigeminal nuclei to the most periphera...

Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging to Evaluate Microstructural Changes and Outcomes after Radiofrequency Rhizotomy of Trigeminal Nerves in Patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is characterized by facial pain that may be sudden, intense, and recurrent. Our aim was to investigate microstructural tissue changes of the trigeminal nerve in patients with trigeminal neuralgia resulting from neurovascular compression by diffusion tensor imaging, and to test the predictive value of diffusion tensor imaging for determining outcomes after radiofrequency rhi...

The Benefits and implementations of Diffusion tensor imaging and Neural Fiber Tractography in Brain Surgery

Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...

Diffusion Tensor Imaging of Creativity in Normal Human Subjects

Introduction The construct of creativity, defined here as the capacity to produce something both novel and useful within a given social setti (Flaherty, 2005) has garnered increased interest within the cognitive neurosciences in with the maturing of modern neuroimag techniques. Indeed, relationships have been shown between creativity and frontotemporal dementia (Miller & Hou, 2004), and frontal...
